Nearly 3 hours boat ride from Key West, there's a small set of islands. Some of them are the world's only nesting ground for birds that migrate there all the way from Africa.
There's no other National Park like Dry Tortugas.
Most people get there by boat, but some arrive by sea plane, touching down in the crystal teal waters of the gulf of Mexico.
I've been there twice, and each time find the juxtaposition of military architecture and tropical climate / biology fascinating.
During your visit there, you can snorkel and swim around the abandoned jetties and barriers between the Fort and the endless ocean.
With no real shade to speak of, even on partly cloudy days the sun beats down on the keys, washing out the sand, casting glittering shimmers on the water, and blurring the line between horizon and water.
"Bush Key" was taken on a guided trip to Dry Tortugas with 5 close friends. We chatted and looked out for turtles and flying fish on the boat ride over. On the island, we wandered the Fort Jefferson structure. Most of our time was spent in the water, avoiding jellyfish, discovering stingrays, and marveling at the sea life and coral.

What's great about open editions, you ask?
Open editions highlight some of the amazing places I've been lucky enough to experience. They're perfect for collecting on a budget.
Open editions can be bought by anyone who is interested. You also might find them on a puzzle.
If you're interested in something a little more rare, have a look at my limited editions. Unlike open editions, a limited number of prints will be made, and then no one can buy them again.
